Future Farmer?

The carrots in our farm share this week were so pretty (and tasty) that I wanted to take a picture. I tried to get Cannon to pose with them, but he was not into it. If he were talking, I'm sure he would have said, "Get those carrots off my rocket!"

Our favorite things in the farm share so far have been the peaches, cherries, and snap peas. But this week all of those were trumped by the corn--it is amazing! Cannon got his own mini-ear and ate it all by himself.

We may have mentioned that this fella loves anything with wheels... here is more proof. And no matter what size the vehicle, he generally chooses to use the steering wheel to drive it.

Action!

Cannon is constant motion. Whether he's trying to climb things (everything!) or "helping" with dinner by stirring, shaking things up in the refrigerator, or throwing the potatoes I'm peeling off the deck (that helps make them tender...), he is perpetually in motion. He loves to mimic and seems to always be making funny facial expressions--I wish I could capture them on film! He also "talks" constantly.... no real words yet, but it won't be too long.

Many of these photos were taken on a trip to Montana. Timothy guided a trip in Yellowstone, and Cannon and I got to hang out with old friends. We stayed at the farm where my good friend Katey lives in a one-room cabin. It made nap and bedtime a little challenging, but we survived.

This was the prime sheep-watching spot. Cannon loves sheep, whether here on Katey's farm or on the farm we go to every Monday at home (where the lamb's name is "O-baaaah-ma").

Cannon often took naps on the deck, complete with makeshift bug protectors (for the 5 bugs that are flying around Montana).

Back at home, his climbing skills are getting really good (a little too good!).

And who doesn't love a little playtime in the kitchen cupboard?

Or with the recycling?!
Uh, yeah, we let it overflow a little and Cannon was excited to discover it. I told you he loves to mimic!

The Shirtless Wonder

I promise that whenever Cannon leaves the house, he is wearing a shirt and shoes.  But when we're just hangin' out in the backyard, both are optional... the shirt because he refuses to wear a bib and ruins shirts while eating, and the shoes because well, who needs 'em?  I will tell you, though, that today is our first day of an experiment to see whether wearing shoes will encourage him to wander out into the grass.  Until now "playing in the backyard" has actually meant "walking endlessly up and down the sidewalk between the garage and the house", which is fine since walking is his new favorite hobby, but we're just trying to sway him into a new little adventure here:  the wonderful world of grass!  His other favorite things:  anything with a lid, reading books (he has definite favorites and will bring the ones he wants to the reader) , spatulas, forks (only when he is safe in his high chair, although he regularly protests that decision), playing peek-a-boo, and giving high fives (anytime, but most curiously when someone says, "say bye-bye") .

P.S.  Sorry for the blur on some of these photos... our camera is being weird.  Oh, and Cannon was carrying on a pretty constant conversation while I was taking these--can you tell?    :)

Where's Cannon?

Do you see him in this picture?

The answer, though, is that he's everywhere!  Last week he decided to make walking his main mode of transportation, and he's not lookin' back!  He pushes his rocket ship from the garage, along the sidewalk to the house, up a step and into the kitchen, through the dining room and living room to the front of the house... and then turns and goes the other way.  He occasionally gets frustrated with the two small steps in there, but he's learning about lifting.  And he learned really quickly how to steer--there were soem frustrations there, too.  And this boy is not shy about telling everyone when he's mad or frustrated.  Timothy put him in a bucket the other day too, which Cannon did not think was very funny.  :)

Announcement!

Announcement #1:  We're going to have another little one in early November!  Cannon wrote that on the board himself... then he ate the chalk.  :)

Announcement #2:  Cannon discovered yesterday that he loves corn on the cob.  Who doesn't?  Timothy got a new grill that takes up about half of the backyard, so it's going to be a fun summer.  :)

Announcement #3:  If you're ever babysitting Cannon (come visit!!), keep a close eye on him all the time.  Yesterday he climbed to the top of a 6 ft. ladder.  Don't worry--I was there spotting him.  He didn't even hesitate until the second to last step... then he stopped, read the warning label that says, "Do not stand at or above this rung", and proceeded to climb to the top step.  Timothy would have liked to teach him how to jump off onto the bed while he was up there, but we're saving that for when he turns 2!

90 Degrees and Sunny--Whoa!

We hardly know what that means in Leadville! We see those temps for a couple of weeks a year, but Cannon and I went to Florida in early May to visit my parents.  For a few days we got plenty of pool time and rides in the golf cart.  We ended up taking a slight detour to Indiana on our way home, so we got to hang out with my siblings and their kiddos as well.  Fun times!

This is a boy who LOVES to drive.  If it has wheels, he wants to be near it (he was known to crawl up to strangers to check out the wheels on their luggage during our travels!). Better yet, if it has a steering wheel, he wants to turn it.

Happy Birthday, Happy Spring!

We spent Cannon's first birthday in Steamboat Springs, where Timothy was taking a week-long class.  Dad went to class all day everyday, and Mom and babe rode around town on the bike, walked, spent countless hours in the park and library, etc.  It was spring there!  Leadville is still waiting for the warmth to hit....

This was taken during Cannon's few weeks' refusal to wear a bib.  Rather than ruin his clothes, we elected to have him dine naked.

Cousins

We took a little detour during our trip to Florida, and ended up in Indiana visiting family! Here is Cannon with his three cousins: Morgan, Avery, and Hadleigh.
